What was the Gypsy Tour?
Three days after our wedding in August 2003, my wife Margaret, our faithful dog
Kiya, and I embarked on a vacation of epic proportions. We decided to travel the
country for a year in our 1999 VW Eurovan Camper.
We put the house up for sale in Boulder, CO. Our first adventure was to take a 2
week test trip to Montana and Canada. That helped us figure out what worked, and
what didn't.
After the test trip, we tweaked a few things (like leaving the bikes at home - they
were too much of a hassle), and set out for the real thing at the end of September.
All we knew for sure was we wanted to see the fall colors in the northeast. After
that, we would follow our hearts (and probably the warm weather) around the country.
There was no end date in mind, although we guessed we'd get our fill of traveling
after about a year.
In addition to sightseeing, relaxing, and catching up on book reading, a significant
goal of mine was to grow my software and consulting company,
Tech Info Systems. I have an idea for a software product, and this extended
time off provided a wonderful opportunity to work on it.
