About us
Who the heck is this Roger guy, anyway?
Roger Daniel Martin was born on November 16, 1972 in
Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin to Ron and Marti
Martin. Fort Atkinson is about a half hour's drive south east of Madison.
Roger attended St. Paul's Lutheran School through the eighth grade. As a child he
enjoyed playing with his little brother John, gardening, reading, woodworking, playing
on his Commodore 64, snowmobiling, and fixing his snowmobile. Roger was especially
skilled in woodworking. To this day he has several gorgeous pieces of work that
handsomely compliment the decor in the home he shares with Margaret. In ninth grade
he moved on to Fort Atkinson Senior High School where his shining moment was taking
6th place in the Euchre tournament.
After High School he went to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville
and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. The day after
graduation he moved to Boulder, Colorado.
Not long after he arrived (somewhere around the winter of 1996) he obtained a job
with Granville-Phillips which was later acquired by
Helix Technology as a Manufacturing Engineer. Helix manufactures instruments
involved in measuring and manipulating vaccuum environments for the semiconductor
industry. About this time Roger rediscovered his interest in computers. He began
by building his own web site and teaching himself computer programming. Eventually
he learned enough to convince Helix that they should hire him in their Information
Technology Department. He worked there until August 2003, when he quit to move to
California with Margaret.
Today, aside from hanging out with his honey, Roger enjoys playing/learning on his
computer, mountain biking, smelling the flowers, and rolling around with their dog,
Kiya.
Who the heck is this Margaret gal, anyway?
Margaret Elizabeth Clinton was born on Tuesday, September 20th, 1978 to Pamela and
William Clinton in Sonoma, California.
Sonoma is nestled in wine country about an hour's drive north of San Francisco.
Like Roger, Margaret attended private school through the eighth grade, and then
moved on to Sonoma Valley High School. As a child Margaret enjoyed dancing, making
various crafts, going to camp, and playing with her little sister, Kayla.
After High School Margaret attended Humboldt State
University in Arcata, California. She spent her senior year in an exchange
program at the University of Wyoming in an attempt to "broaden horizons". In May
of 1999 she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies; a self-designed
major in which she explored the interrelationship of the biology and psychology
of humans.
While in Wyoming she heard many good things about Boulder, Colorado and after landing
a job with an Americorps child literacy program there, she moved. Subsequent to
her year of service she spent another year of free-spiritedness. This year involved,
among other things, extensive dance and self-discovery. Then she found a job with
Boulder County Head Start as Health
Services Coordinator. This means that Margaret is involved in assuring access to
appropriate health care and health education for the low-income and special needs
pre-school children and families served by Head Start.
Today, aside from hanging out with her honey, Margaret enjoys dancing (still, especially
Jazz), reading, sewing, traveling, and watching Roger roll around with their dog
Kiya.
How did you two meat?
Actually, we didn't. Margaret borders on vegetarian, and Roger, when he does meat,
it's rarely with Margaret.
Okay, how did you meet?
Sam was friends with Amy and Danielle. Roger worked with Amy. Sam had a party where
Amy, Danielle and Roger were invited. Danielle and Roger became friends. Later,
Margaret moved in with Sam.
At their first meeting, Roger was helping Sam transfer all her files from an old
computer to a new computer. Margaret and Roger met. They briefly discussed camping
and then Roger left thinking "Gee, she was kinda cute. Too bad she's so un-friendly."
Margaret said, "Goodbye", thinking "Gee, he was kinda cool, I wonder if I'll see
him again." Nothing happened.
A few months later Danielle had a party. Margaret & Roger were there. Again,
nothing happened.
Later, Margaret became good friends with Danielle. In early summer 2000 Danielle
said to Margaret, "Lets go hang out with Roger at this cabin in the mountains he
likes to visit." So they did. (The cabin belongs to Roger's friends George and Betty)
This time, something happened: a few days later Roger asked Margaret to dinner.
Later, Roger discovered Margaret was not inherently unfriendly, just occasionally
a bit shy and misunderstood. Margaret discovered Roger was, indeed, cool.
How did you become engaged?
Margaret was dying to visit The
Flagstaff House, a "fine dining" restaurant perched on Flagstaff Mountain
overlooking Boulder. So she made reservations for Saturday, February 9th 2002, the
day after Roger came back from one of his many trips to Boston, Massachusetts on
business. While there, Roger had visited New York City and the former site of the
World Trade Center and, amidst a day of solitude and reflection,
he had decided to ask Margaret to be his wife. Meanwhile, back at the farm, Margaret
had no idea what dessert at the Flagstaff House was to entail.
Over coffee, Blueberry Struedel Flambe (or some such rediculousness), and an elaborate
plate of "sweets", Roger popped the question. Margaret promptly freaked out. It
wasn't that she didn't want to marry Roger, it was just that she was severely shocked
to find out that Roger wanted to marry her. Roger was denied the privelege of an
answer to his query.
A week of introspection, serious conversation, and apprehension ensued. The following
Saturday Margaret felt compelled to make a pot of Hot & Sour Soup. While slowly
consuming the delectable concoction Roger casually leafed through his latest programming
magazine and Margaret pondered the effects of an acidic solution of Hot & Sour
Soup broth (containing a considerable amount of vinegar, which Roger was not disinclined
to acknowledge) on a piece of sterling silver such as the one she had placed at
the bottom of Roger's bowl. After what seemed to be quite an extended period of
time Roger discovered that same piece of sterling silver, in the form of a ring,
hiding under a cube of tofu, sparkling and fully intact.
"Roger," Margaret said, "I want to marry you."
Roger, how do you know Margaret is "the one"?
She had duct tape on her slippers, just like me.
Margaret, how do you know Roger is "the one"?
He entertains my idiosyncratic speculations such as the potential effects of acetic
acid (C2H4O2 ) on silver (Ag).
What the heck is "Marogeret"?
Margaret + Roger = Marogeret
When Margaret & Roger get hitched, they plan on, rather than doing the traditional
thing and both using Roger's last name, both changing their name to Marogeret. No
last name.
Are you insane?
Yes, but I am just kidding about the Marogeret thing.
